Have you been having problems with your computer and do not know what is wrong? You probably have a computer virus. If you have had a computer virus or if you have been lucky enough not to, read this article for four ways to prevent viruses from getting on your computer.
1. My first tip would be to stay away from porn and illegal software sites. If you sign into a pornographic web site or just visit one you immediately receive viruses. Just one click on a pop-up or security window and you will unleash trojan horses, dialers, spyware, and other bad software onto your computer that will, essential, begin to destroy your computer.
You should also stay away from web sites that are distributing software and serial codes illegally. These sites will steal your information, place viruses onto your computer, and so forth.
2. If you do not already have one, get some security protection onto your computer. My suggestion would be to get the big three protections, anti-virus software, anti-spyware software, and a firewall.
Although one of the best anti-virus softwares on the market today is Norton Anti-Virus, which costs a fortune to have, you do not necessarily have to spend a lot of money to get a program. If you go to grisoft.com you can download an excellent anti-virus software for free.
Spyware is also another thing I would recommend you have on your computer. The program I use is Ad-Aware SE Personal which, like grisoft.com, is a free program. This program scans your computer for any spyware and adware that is common on the internet today and removes it from your computer.
The final piece that is suggested is a firewall. If you have Windows XP you probably already have a firewall. If this is the case, make sure that it is always enabled. You may have it on your computer but it is not enabled which means it is not doing its job. If you do not have a firewall you should go download Zone Alarm which features an excellent free version.
Even when you have all of this stuff you still need to play it safe and keep updating this software. If you do not update the software new viruses will arise that are not on the software that can damage your computer.
3. If you are frequently having viruses and do not visit any illegal software sites and any pornographic sites you should look at what emails you are opening. You need to stop opening up emails from people you do not know and also stop opening up all attachments.
Most of the viruses that have been released onto computers are distributed through email. If you get an email from someone you do not know, especially if it promises you to see Paris Hilton naked, or whatever, delete it immediately without opening it.
4. Watch everything that you download also. If you download a program like Limewire or Morpheus you should assume you are going to be getting viruses on your computer. Spyware is often embedded into files and software that you download. My suggestion would be to download as little as possible.
That is just four tips that have helped me to avoid getting viruses onto my computer.
